Religious Education and Collective Worship
Religious Education is provided in accordance with current legislation and the recommendations of the Telford & Wrekin Agreed Syllabus. At Church Aston we encourage children to develop an understanding of their own beliefs whilst also showing an appreciation and understanding of children and people that have different beliefs from their own. Our children enjoy finding out about others and we take an approach that each child is unique and part of the Church Aston family. This ensures our children feel confident to share their beliefs and feel sure that they will be accepted. Religious Education is taught as either a separate entity or part of a wider topic. We use dedicated time each week to teach RE as well as through our collective worship. We introduce Christianity and other world religions including Islam and Hinduism. Important aspects to our teaching are time to question compare, reflect, looking for similarities between beliefs. We have close links with St Andrews Church where we often celebrate important events in the Christian calendar including Harvest, Christmas, and Easter. We are also supported by Open the Book a group which visits school and acts out stories from the Bible, our children are always keen to join in with the acting. We also make opportunities to invite representatives of local religious groups within our community to come into school and talk to the children. Assemblies, in accordance with current requirements, contain a broadly Christian act of worship. We also use Picture News to stimulate discussions in assemblies that are relevant and reflect current affairs and different points of view and beliefs that the children can relate to. Providing children with a rich and valuable understanding of British culture and complexity of beliefs.
